国外博士后 - 加州大学戴维斯分校招聘环境工程/化学博士后

Postdoctoral researcher in environmental engineering/environmental chemistry – University of California at Davis

Job Type: Post-Doc

JobRank: Postdoctoral researcher

Job Institution: University of California at Davis

Job Description: Postdoctoral researcher in environmental engineering/environmental chemistry – University of California at Davis

Project description: Evaporative condensers are being introduced as a means to reduce peak power demand associated with residential air conditioning; however these units require water to achieve the energy and power savings.  Water consumption by these units has raised some concerns due to water scarcity.  This research attempts to address this concern via a three-pronged water management approach: 1) understand the implications of water chemistry and water management on mineral scale formation (e.g., calcite) as they impact long-term evaporative condenser performance; 2) evaluate water treatment approaches that are intended to minimize mineral scale formation; and 3) evaluate alternative water sources for use with the evaporative condenser.

Duties and responsibilities:  The postdoctoral researcher will work with a multidisciplinary team primarily composed of mechanical engineers to experimentally determine the implications of water quality and water management on mineral scale formation rate and quality in an evaporative condenser. The postdoctoral researcher will lead the effort to design and execute laboratory and field experiments and analyze water and mineral samples, with the primary objective of improving an existing model that predicts mineral scale formation rate.  The postdoctoral scholar will also assist in supervising one or two graduate students who are evaluating alternative water sources.

Qualifications: The candidate should have a strong experimental background and experience working in a multi-disciplinary team is preferred.  Interest in fundamental processes as they apply to real-world systems is a must.   In addition, applicants: 1) must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. focusing on Environmental Engineering or a related discipline; 2) must demonstrate an ability to design experiments, construct experimental apparatus’, operate laboratory equipment, and analyze data; 3) have ability to serve as a mentor for undergraduate and graduate students; 4) have a demonstrated publication record (manuscripts that are in preparation will be considered); 5) assist the PIs with proposal writing; and 6) be interested in disseminating scientific results in both research and public forums (e.g., scholarly publications and industry affiliates, respectively).  A January or February 2013 start date is preferred.

About UC Davis and the Western Cooling Efficiency Center: For more than 100 years, UC Davis has engaged in teaching, research and public service that matter to California and transform the world. Located close to the state capital, UC Davis has more than 32,000 students, more than 2,500 faculty and more than 21,000 staff, an annual research budget of nearly $750 million, a comprehensive health system and 13 specialized research centers. More at www.ucdavis.edu.

The Western Cooling Efficiency Center was established along side the UC Davis Energy Efficiency Center in 2007. The Center partners with industry stakeholders to stimulate the development of cooling technologies that can reduce energy demand and water consumption in buildings.  The Center engages in primary research, innovation, laboratory testing, field demonstrations, education, outreach, and advocacy related to climate appropriate cooling technologies. More at wcec.ucdavis.edu.

Salary and Benefits:   Salary is based on qualifications.  The position can be renewed annually depending on satisfactory performance and funding availability.  Health insurance benefits will be offered through the UC Davis postdoctoral benefits.

How to Apply: Applicants must provide a cover letter including previous pertinent experience, C.V., and contact information for 3 professional references.  Application review will begin 12/12/2012 and continue until the position is filled. Application materials can be emailed to ermckenzie@ucdavis.edu and tepistochini@ucdavis.edu.
